Parts of Medicare

There are two distinct sections of Medicare. The first is Original Medicare, or Parts A and B. These parts are provided by the Federal Government and available to anyone eligible for coverage.

How much does Medicare cost?

If certain conditions are met, most individuals will qualify for premium-free Medicare part A. Part A covers short-term hospital, nursing facility, hospice, and some home care.

A premium fee must be paid monthly for Medicare Part B. This fee is automatically deducted from your benefits payments, and the amount is dependent on your yearly income and tax return.

The other parts of Medicare include Medicare Advantage or Part C, and Part D. You can get Part D coverage with a Medicare Advantage Plan or as a standalone plan for your prescription drug coverage. These parts are dependent on the individual’s needs—you choose what coverage is best for you. These are offered by private companies and include all of the benefits of parts A and B with many other benefits depending on the plan that you chose.
