Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement Insurance, or Medigap, does just that—it covers the “gaps” that Original Medicare does not. For health services not covered by Original Medicare, Medigap helps pay the copayments, coinsurance, and deductible.

In other words, Medicare will pay its share of covered health costs, and Medigap will pay the remainder of its share.

How do Medicare Supplement Plans work?

To be eligible for a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan, you must first have Original Medicare (parts A and B). While a Medigap plan does not provide added benefits, it does supplement your Original Medicare coverage costs.

Each person (plans must be purchased per person, not per married couple) pays a monthly premium for Medigap coverage. You may buy a plan from any licensed insurance company in your area, and companies are legally required to maintain your coverage despite any health issues after signing as long as the said premium is paid.

How much do Medicare Supplement Plans cost?

The monthly premium for Medigap is dependent on the plan you choose. Speak with your plan provider to determine its exact cost. When searching for a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan, it is important to compare these costs as each policy is offered at a different price.
