Medicare Part C

Medicare Part C is offered by private insurers and provides added, personalized benefits to Original Medicare (Parts A and B). This plan is required by law to include the coverage offered by parts A and B and is considered an “all-in-one” option.

Cost and coverage options vary between each insurance company. This means that you must do your own research and decide for yourself the plan that best fits your budget and needs. However, this does not have to be a complicated process—with the right information, you can find the most comprehensive insurance suited for your needs.

What does Medicare Part C cover?

Medicare Part C is the most comprehensive coverage option. All Part C plans must offer all of the benefits of parts A and B, including short-term hospital and urgent care, as well as all of the medically-acceptable equipment or services needed for treatments and preventative care. Most plans also cover prescription drug coverage and other benefits such as dental and vision.

With the combination of Parts A and B, Part C will almost certainly cover:

  • Doctor’s visit (in-network vs. out-of-network coverage is dependant on the provider)
  • Inpatient and outpatient mental health services
  • Occupational and physical therapy
  • Speech and language pathology
  • Medical equipment such as walkers, shower chairs, etc.

Other benefits are dependent on the plan and provider you choose. These benefits may include:

  • Routine dental, vision, and hearing care
  • Including cleanings, dentures, eyeglasses, and hearing aids
  • Fitness, including exercise classes
  • Housekeeping
  • Caregiver counseling

How much does Medicare Part C cost?

The individual providers of Part C set the cost of your Medicare coverage—this means that you must contact your local Medicare companies to determine the exact costs. However, there are payment options that you should be aware of when searching for the right Part C provider:

  • Premiums are paid for Part C monthly on top of the fees for Parts A and B (if you have them).
  • Deductibles are paid yearly, and Part A and B deductibles do not apply.
  • Copayments are applied to certain medical services and are determined mainly by the services and benefits you use.
  • Coinsurance pays to select medical care items and is set by the provider.
